Narration and Voice Acting

One of my goals is to work as a narrator and voice actor. It’s a field that I never started because I didn’t know how to start. I had joined a radio voice acting group, but quit after one week because I was still recovering from a cold and couldn’t stop coughing. This was years ago and I never picked it back up. I was posting off and on to HitRecord, which is a great site, but consistency is a great struggle for me. (I don’t know how people work on one idea at a time, but bless them.) I’m not even sure I still have access to my old account on that site. But I decided that I want to work as a narrator, I need to start working as a narrator, beginning with my own work.

I’m not gonna lie, hearing my own voice took some getting used to. It sounds very different played back on a recording than what I hear when I speak. It was jarring. Like, “Oh my God!!! That’s what I sound like? Is that what people hear when I speak?” It was a wild feeling that I still sometimes struggle with, but I have to work through the struggle if this is something that I want to do. And it is. I’ve wanted to for a long time.

Growing up, watching Looney Toons, and finding out that Mel Blanc did most of those voices, struck me with awe. Seeing Rob Paulsen’s name everywhere in the 90s was crazy. I wanted to be Cree Summer. There’s nothing else to say after that. Her resume is my childhood. She second-hand raised me. I’ve had a lot of years to start this career. I’m late. But I’m alive. So, there’s time to jump in. This is me. Jumping in. Wish me luck!!!
