So, Arrow. DC’s live-action show on…I don’t actually know which station…I stream it…so… Based on the character Green Arrow, I have completely mixed feelings about this show and the main actor’s performance. To begin, let me say, I don’t know much about Green Arrow. I’m a Marvel and only recently (over the last couple of years) started to really get into DC). Ergo, everything I’m about to say is based completely on the show and has no basis on how I feel about their adaptation of the story.
I do like the premise of the story. A selfish shallow guy gets stranded on an island. Returns to the real world a selfless superhero. I’m down with that. He’s an archer. Archers are cool. He’s focused; he has a goal; he’s on a mission. These are all very good things.
What then is my problem. Well, for starters, I do not like the lead actress. I can’t remember her name at the moment. But she was in Supernatural for a bit (one of my favorite shows). I didn’t like her then either. I’m just not a fan of her acting style. Also, I’m not a fan of the character she plays in Arrow. She reminds me of Rachel Dawes. I didn’t like her either. Or Lana Lang. I find them judgmental and oh so boring.
As for Mr. Arrow. I like his performance on the island better than his performance as Arrow. He was more human when he was stranded and near death (even after Mystery Man) found him. As the superhero he’s very mechanical, very wooden. Maybe that’s the way he supposed to be do to what he suffered. I could see that. Still, it feel like there’s just not enough human in him to connect on an emotional level. Were it not for his mother and sister, I’m sure what I’d have to hold me to him.
Many of the other characters I’m not a big fan of either. And some of the story lines are just too neatly packaged and predictable.
All of that being said, I’ve watched all the episodes. And I’m sure I’ll continue to watch it. I want to see what happens with his mother and if he ever finishes his list. Also John Barrowman joined the show. And I love him a lot. They got rid of that DAMNED GOD-AWFUL voice-over!!!! Thank the Good Lord!
Anyway, this show reminds me of that song that gets on your nerves, but you can’t stop listening to it. So, I guess whatever the writers are doing, they should just keep doing it.
